I built a coop/run for my chickens. They are now 10 weeks old. Every evening when I go to shut the door I notice the chickens hanging out in the doorway. usually 3 of the four chickens will be inside but right by the door while one is half in half out on the ramp. The coop is 3ft off the ground. I've checked for temp and it's the same inside and out of the coop. There's no mite or infestation issues. I kept them cooped up for 6 days when they first moved into the coop and they don't seem to have a problem getting 90% into the coop just not all the way. Any suggestions?

Try putting a light in the coop. You can use a small LED lantern or flashlight, if they can see they will be much more willing to go in. You can turn it off once they've all gone in and gotten settled. I always do this with new chicks going in the coop. Once they become accustomed to it they will go in easier.

not sure where you are in the world, but if your in north America or Europe, with spring coming on, they may just be enjoying the nice weather. I know mine are going to bed later, not just because of the longer day, but hanging out as you say on the ramp. I can only imagine that its like sitting on your porch with a beer. LOL

I live in Georgia (USA) so, yeah, it is getting nice here.

Does this coop have good ventilation?

Dunno what qualifys as good ventilation for a chicken. Their coop is 5x5x5ft. They have a window that is 2x2ft and centered on the south facing wall, two ventilation openings that are 1x3ft at the top of the east and west facing walls, and a 1x3ft ventilation opening at the bottom of the north facing wall.

Is it the alpha hanging out bythe door? Our alpha watches the coop until we put the door down every night.

They're ~10 weeks old so two are still chest bumping out who the queen bee is gonna be, but yeah, it typically is one of those two that are outside while the other three are inside (but close by).
