I have 3 buff leghorn chickens that were raised from chicks.
They have been living outside in a coop for 3 weeks. They are doing great!
I am having a hard time getting them to go back into their coop at night. I had heard rah they did this instinctually , but they don't seem to be getting the message.
Last weekend, I was unable to get them back in the coop before I had to leave. I didn't get back home until about midnight and I couldn't find them. They appeared Saturday morning in perfect shape. After observing them over the last couple of nights, they are roosting up in trees. How can I get them to go home at night?

Mine wouldn't go in on their own and then one day I left the light on by accident and once it got dark they went in there on their own. So now that is my routine, to leave the light on and they all go in when they are ready, but not before the sun goes down. They do go in and out on their own during the day though.
