Chickens won't lay eggs?

My hen will lay about three eggs once in awhile. Months will go by in between. Only one of my four hens has ever laid, and she rarely does. They are all full grown chickens. Why won't they lay?

how old were they when you got them? What breed? Some breeds just are not good layers. Do they free range? If so they may be laying eggs where you don't see them.

Two hens are supposedly mixed bantams, but they're too big for that. I got them and my two roosters as chicks. My other two hens are little Key West Gypsies. Only one of the mixed bantams has ever laid, and they are confined to their coop when I'm not watching.

Along with the information that Sumi included here on why birds may not be laying, if birds are stressed in any way, they won't lay either. If you are keeping these birds cooped up when you are not around to watch them, especially with roosters in the same coop, this might be enough to stress them to the point of not laying. They could also have health issues because they are not getting out enough.
