I have 6 chickens (2 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Brahmas, 2 Ameraucanas) that are 2 years old now. Back in November, my egg production went from 5-6 per day down to 1 per day. 7 months later, still no change in egg production. I use artificial light all winter long, I use a layer feed, lots of scrap produce, I let them run around the yard, and have even been giving them milk. All of them seem to have very high energy, but just not producing. The only one producing is one of my Rhode Island Reds, but some of the others will jump into the hen box but not lay eggs (I have sat and watched for hours to no avail). Does anyone have an idea what to do in this situation? I am getting tired of having to buy eggs when I should be getting them daily!

I also have been adding in Oyster shells to try and increase their calcium, but no luck with that either!

Welcome! How frustrating! Some two year old hens will have issues beyond your control and not produce eggs any more. Molting, stress, and diet can be part of the story. Good layer feed and oyster shell on the side should be all they need, and too many scraps will alter the balance of the diet. A Flock Raiser type diet is a very good alternative, again with oyster shell on the side. No milk! Stress comes in many forms; animals harassing them at night, for example, that you may not be aware of. Some birds molt for a very long time too. Illness; individual hens, or a subclinical disease causing poor egg production. Mary
