Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

Miniature dachshunds are great ratters if they have the drive. My neighbors long haired miniature dachshund wants a lap or a couch and nothing to do with traditional dachshund work.

Raw meat and other raw contents are what dogs bodies are designed to consume. Their digestive systems aren’t meant for dry material ground up and formed into little chunks, then baked at high temperatures. Just like humans aren’t meant to eat processed dried foods. They’re supposed to consume raw vegetablesand meats. Minus the raw meat lol

Feeding raw can definitely be expensive. I won’t mention how much we spend, but we want what’s best for them and can’t put a price on that.

To each their own! That’s just my one cent. All the really matters Is that they’re loved and cared for properly.

So some of them don’t have a drive for it?

What's the difference in care between big dogs and small dogs? Most of my favorite breeds are large (goldens, labs, border collies, tollers, german shepherds, great pyrenees, bernese mountain dogs) but I also really like corgis, those mini huskies, and italian greyhounds.

Not much. Depends on the breed, really. the biggest difference is in feeding, and training. Small dogs are more likely to be peeved with behavior issues, such as "small dog syndrome". Small dogs are often not trained, since they are small, tugging on the leash isn't as signifigant as if a large dog started pulling on the leash.

Mini huskies sound like a byb term, you mean alaskan klee kai

Doxies are mostly pets these days, most are watered down and lack in drive. Most reputable breeders have dogs who follow the breed standard, which includes the drive to do what the where bred for. Being transparent with your breeder will allow them to pick a puppy for you who is most likely to have the most drive.

Small dogs need less food, and sometimes can need less exercise space. Some people assume that smaller dogs need less exercise, but, say, a corgi needs just as much exercise as every other herding breed. In my opinion, it depends on the purpose of the dog, and what energy level they'd need to complete their task.

I made up the term 'mini huskies', that's probably what I meant lol.

That makes a lot of sense- I've always had or been around big dogs so training has always been a big factor with the dog. How much training do you usually do with smaller dogs?

And the big dogs won’t fit out the cat flap:lau which is one of the reasons I want a small dog.
