Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

Any dog: *yawns*
Me: Perfection! Amazing! The best! 10/10! Bravo! Glorious!
Lol. Often yawning is a sign of anxiety. In dogs. Sneezing equals laughter. Can be joy, greeting, or if they think you did something really surprising or funny. Like if you get down on your hands and knees and act like a dog. Often this cracks them up. Yes, they do have a sense of humor. And if you sneeze back at them they will often sneeze back again!

But it's so cute!
Like occasional yawning or constant yawning?

Is shaking off a stress responce?

I heard somebody say they are trying to shake off a stress

after he reacted today, he shook off.

I would say shaking off is more like they are DONE being stressed. Like they are putting themselves back together AFTER having been stressed and are now ready to move on to the next thing. They are literally shaking off the stress.

My Golden used to shake off after he got up from a nap, like he was readjusting his skin and hair coat. I decided I would use that as his signal to go "out." Because he did not ask vocally. So for three days every time he shook I would ask, Do you want to go OUT? He knew the word OUT. And he would look at me like, I don't know. Do I? If you say so.... And on the third day, he got up, looked at me, grinned, and very deliberately, he shook. And headed for the door. He was so proud that HE had taught ME to open the door when he shook! What a dork! And the neat thing is, every dog I had after that, as long as he lived, did the same thing. My current dogs, sadly, do not.
