Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

My dog really has a problem with horses, she tries to bite them and barks at them and I'm going to get a horse in the future and I'm wondering how to train her out of it.
You could start with basic obedience work, things like heel and sit and stay, then visit someone with horses and make your dog practice obedience there. Keep her under control, and don't let her have the "fun" of biting and barking at them, and she can gradually learn to behave around horses.

For when you get a horse, maybe take her to meet the horse a few times before you bring it home, and insist she behave politely the whole time. Then keep her on a leash or inside some kind of fence so she cannot chase and bother the horse when you do bring it home-- basically, make it clear to her that she must behave around THIS horse in particular.

I expect she will settle down when the horse is no longer new and exciting, as long as you can get through those first days and weeks without her forming more bad habits or anyone getting hurt (dog, horse, or person!)

I will have to try some more agility she can jump over any obstacle i got her up over a 4 ft obstacle before. Im teaching her to pick up her toys. She knows how to spin so im going to teach her to spin will she is on her hind legs. Thank you for all the tricks!

Teach her to spin, then lie down and roll over. Call it break dancing. My Golden learned that easily, he was so hyper as a puppy that's what he did when I was trying to teach him "Down!" 😄
Ill have to try that! She wasnt a very hyper pup until we switched her food because she wasnt eating and she has a allergy. Now i take her on 2 walks daily plus going up to the ball field and running in the backyard before she is tired.

Try holding a treat in your hand when she is lying down, and lead her by rolling your hand around in a circle around her head, if that makes sense. Even if she just rolls onto her side at first, give her the treat, then go on from there, getting her to roll further as time goes by. Someone else may have a better method, but this is what I would try.

Thats what i do with her. It works when she really wants to do it.
