Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

I'm not interested in competing, just something with structured goals that I can work at that I can do in the backyard (or a field, but mostly in the yard) that will work the dog

Maybe search/find things.

I don't know if you would want to teach the dog one thing, and hide it each time ("Find your bowl" or chew toy or bone or whatever).

Or if you would hide food, and the dog has to find the bits by smell. (Like the snuffle mat, but all over the backyard.)

Or have the dog sniff something, and find something else that smells the same, like search-and-rescue when they smell the clothes and find the person. That one could be like a hide-and-seek game with friends, if you wanted.

1. I CANNOT believe that that GSD got best in show in a different show (idk about this one but if it places I will die)
2. I'm not sure if a sport that physically exercises the dog would be better, or if one that exercises their mind would be better. They obviously all use elements of both, but there are some that lean one way or the other.
I've sorted some into groups:

Physical:
Agility
Disc

Mental:
Obedience
Scent work/variations of finding and bringing/variations on hide and seek

Both:
Rally
Treibball
Freestyle

Doesn't work for my situation:
Flyball
Dock Diving
Herding
Canicross
Skijoring
Schutzhund

Wrong dog breed:
Lure Coursing
Tracking
Carting
Weight Pulling

If you think that I sorted one of them wrong, please let me know
I SUPPOSE I could do canicross, but not until the dog is a full adult and I'd probably have to pay for classes
