Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

do you use a treat pouch? what do you use?

I have this one :https://www.amazon.com/Paw-Lifestyl...ywords=dog+treat+pouch&qid=1619278651&sr=8-15

I LOVE IT!! but the mesh on the front is falling apart, the zipper on the front is busted, and its super dirty and worn! I've used it almost every day since I got it in 2019.

I was liking this one : https://www.amazon.com/RoyalCare-Si...eywords=dog+treat+pouch&qid=1619278707&sr=8-5 but I REALLY like how the one I have now holds so much food, and a extra slip lead, and his tennis balls.

This one looks like the one i have, and I am considering it because of the extras it comes with. I feel like the clicker would be great for trick training and free shaping : https://www.amazon.com/Training-Wal...ywords=dog+treat+pouch&qid=1619278707&sr=8-10

this one is cool, but I feel like i'd get hot : https://www.amazon.com/MalsiPree-Do...ywords=dog+treat+pouch&qid=1619278707&sr=8-43

but speaking of that, there is also treat SKIRTS : https://www.amazon.com/Better-Sport...ords=dog+training+skirt&qid=1619278850&sr=8-5

which will carry ALOT! But it might also get hot.

which seems the best?
I don’t use one lol

Also dog treats.

I usually use a mixture of turkey (high value), Nulo Crunchy treats (medium value), and kibble (low value). With a reactive dog, I am ALWAYS!! training on walks. Always, I do phase out treats, but I also use them ALOT!!

I want to try freeze dried raw treats, has anybody used those? do they just fall apart in the pouch?
I use kibble, these little bacon flavor training bites, and some dog biscuit cookie things. No people food.

Can anyone tell me about puppy vaccinations vs. the need for socialization with other dogs? I know many people who worry about their unvaccinated/partially vaccinated puppy getting parvo or another disease don't let them directly interact with other dogs or go on walks where the puppy could come into contact with contaminants. But I also know that that period is the socialization window in which it is so necessary to get a puppy used to new experiences, including interacting with other dogs and puppies. Any thoughts?
I’d tote bag your puppy around, or use a wagon or something, to get used to sounds and sights, and also expose them to different surfaces. Once the vet gives the ok, then you can meet other dogs.

The turkey is fine because its organic with no additives. No salt, no perservitives, just plain ol turkey.. But other than that, no "human" food.
x2
Plain cooked meats like boiled chicken and turkey are safe, healthy high-value treats. They are surprisingly easy to prepare too, and can be portioned into daily "rations" and frozen.
