What a friendly and informative site! I am a chicken newbie, having just gotten our flock 2 days ago. It has been a 5 year wait for my wife who is the one that always wanted chickens but now that they are here I'm just as excited!
We have 6 laying hens and 2 chicks yet to be determined. There are 2 Mottled Java's, 3 Barn Velders, and 1 Buff Orpington. We are expecting a 5 month old rooster any day now (as soon as the owner can catch him) and our flock will be complete for the time being. I think 12 will be our max eventually...famous last words!
Looking forward to reading all about raising chickens and hearing all your stories too!
