thank you for telling me about this. I had no idea.☹ when the oven self cleans, gasses are emitted that are toxic to birds.

we don't know this for sure but I'm pretty sure this is the cause. I didn't know this until a few years ago, I lost a bird from simply cooking with nonstick cookware. Most people do not know this, but now you do. Don't beat yourself up over this, its okay.I feel awful.
I think you are right. I'm glad I know this now. Just sad to lose the chicks. Thank you.we don't know this for sure but I'm pretty sure this is the cause. I am just feeling so bad that this happened to the chicks. I am re-thinking all my pans now - already put 2 cookie sheets outside in the trash. I'm grateful that I know now. Live and learn. So sorry you had to learn this the hard way. I have pet birds and the teflon issue is probably more well-known in those circles since the birds live indoors.
It's kind of unnerving that teflon is so harmful to birds, isn't it? One overheated teflon pan will kill any bird in the house. Wonder what health effects it has on humans, you know? And teflon is in so many things - oven, pans, waffle makers, bread machines, hair appliances, etc. When I got my parrot I went through the house and got rid of as much as I could. I cook mainly with cast iron and plain stainless steel now.
