Chicks and Aspine shavings

BE AWARE. I used aspen shavings and within 2 hours a chick died. After I used it, I got on here and saw that aspen shavings were not recommended. Since it's that time of year for new chicks, don't make the same mistake I did. I have cleaned out the brooder and replaced with newspaper. The other chicks seem to be just fine. I can't be 100% sure it was the aspen shavings, but there is no reason to take a chance. No aspen shavings for chicks!

Sorry to hear that. Use pine shavings instead. They can slip on the newspaper. Good luck!

O.O I almost used aspen shavings. Wonder if that's what caused its death or not. So sorry about that.

I agree with montverdechick, using newspaper isn't a good idea in the long run.
