I have six, seven week old chantecler chicks with four araucanas of similar age. I am pretty eager to have them out of the house! They seem to have their feathers now, but their heads are still fluffy. Because it is getting pretty warm now, I am wondering if I can bring them out to the coop.
I have a bit of a space issue here. The coop part of my shed... 45 Sq feet... Is occupied by my five hens and one rooster. The hens are kind of bullies but not crazy mean or anything. The rooster is benevolent. In the shed part of the coop, i have a 2 by 4 foot box with another hen and her five, one month old chicks. During the day, now, they exit their box and just run around in the shed (separate from the others, but they can see them) so if i bring the brooder to the shed, the chicks and the momma and younger chicks can easily get to each other.
So... What should i do? I suppose I could bring the older chicks out and cover their brooder. They do not seem inclined to leave it but I know they can.
