So this might be a weird/silly question, but I have to ask. I have three 5 1/2 week old chicks right now. By the Fourth of July they'll be about 8 weeks old. I live on a pond and every year there's a HUGE fireworks display. Obviously it's super loud (we have to board our dog at a kennel...they set them off literally 150 feet from our house) and I was just wondering how/if this will affect the chicks? I know there's probably not much I can do but any suggestions might help. Thanks!!

I was thinking the same thing!!! We have fireworks here also every year.... I figured I would put them in their coop.... Hoping they find comfort in there!

Ours make a fuss when we light them near by but if they have already roosted for the night its just minor squaking and squabbling. I'm sure its very loud to them but I would just shut the coop and leave them be...the darkness keeps them relatively calm.

I'm reviving this old thread because I have the same question. There will be a firework show nearby my home in Christmas Eve. Very loud noises. My chicks are 3 weeks old roughly. They still live in a box in a room that's apart from the house. Should I leave them there? Should I leave them there in the dark? Should I take them in their box inside the house (where there's light and humans)?

They are completely fine. We set off fireworks and my chickens were absolutely fine. They will get stressed.

I'd leave them wherever you have them. They won't like the noise, but they should be fine. It'd be more upsetting to them if you changed something in the routine that they're already used to (i.e. taking them to a different room, or turning on/off lights).

have them in the coop. Chickens can't do much about things that would normally spook them when it is dark and being locked up...
