CHICKS AND MONEY

Yeah, there are a few facebook groups that sell a buy stuff, like craiglist, so I'll post there. I only want to sell chicks to at least cover there feed. I raise chickens for more of a hobby, but I'm trying to find a way to keep my hobby as free as possible. But if I can make a profit, well then that would be amazing. I'll check and see my my area and find out the rules.

Honestly, I would go with a different breed. You can probably get more per chick for rare breeds, but, less people want them. If I were buying chicks, I would go for something that would lay well and preferably sex linked so I would know what gender chicks I was buying.

Something else to consider is that you can get more for a point of lay pullet, so if you have the extra room, you could raise them up and you would eat the eggs until you sold the hen and you would have the extra males to make into soup.

Do I need a permit to sell chicks?

Do people care about quality? or does quantity matter more?

Is there a way I can sell chicks to my local feed store? I'm pretty sure they would be willing to buy some more chicks.

If I can sell my local feed store, how do I sell them the chicks?

Where do you recommend I sell the chicks?

How much do I sell the chicks for, my friend told me silkies and seramas are not a common breed and could be sold more than the rest, but never told me specifically how much.
My area no permit. N.C. Florida...
Spring time here chick sales are good, sometimes real real good. Summer everyone calls for mature egg layers and wants to pay the price of what a chick costs in the spring.
If you sell to feed stores, you will make less because they have to sell them at a low price to push them. Don't expect to get 3-4 dollars a chick if the locals stores are all selling for 2-3 dollars for straight run.
We sell via classifieds. Select unpopular breeds because people want something different than their neighbors.

"Do people care about quality? or does quantity matter more?" Not sure what that means?? You need to sell healthy and docile chicks or you will get phone calls with a lot of un happy customers wanting a refund.
If you sell to newbies, you must explain the process of brooder raising hatchlings. I have had people buy week old chicks, stick them in a hen house and expect them to thrive. Then call me demanding a refund because they felt my chicks were sick when they purchased them.
Dealing with the uneducated public is the only drawl back.
We seldom profit but sales does take the edge of the feed costs.
Good luck!
