Chicks and pets

I am new to raising chickens and one worry I have is that I have a dog (2.5 year old german Shepard) and she loves to chase squirrels that run along our fence. And a mischievious female cat. Im not sure if its safe for the the chickens to be around them. They will be in a coop of course with a full cages run. Is this going to be a problem?

I would be careful, keep an eye on them and monitor 'playtime' sessions ^^

Thank you. I sure will. I will not put chicks out in the yard unless the dog is inside asleep which is pretty much the early afternoon. I wonder if my dog will eventually get bored or use to them?

We have 3 little older dogs and they have gotten used to them after a year but if one of the chickens run they will still make chase.

I am leaning on rode Island Reds, does it make a difference on what type of chicks to get?

As far as the being around pets things, I don't think so. Out of my 20 bird flock only 3 aren't afraid and they're all different breeds.
