Thank you all for your advice. I introduce the rooster to the chicks gradually and all went very well. The rooster takes good care of them and even tolerates more than I expected. The new issue I’m having is that when the rooster came to us he was missing feathers on his chest due to a dominant rooster pecking him. Now, after at least two weeks of the rooster living with the young chickens ranging from 8 to 12 weeks, one of the young chickens is pulling the roosters feathers out again after they began growing back. I just noticed today that his chest is becoming bloody again. I see it is one particular chicken that is doing this and the rooster does not mind at all and allows it to happen.
he is such a kind and gentle rooster and I’m not sure where to go from here. Should I remove the chicken that is doing this? I’m really surprised the rooster is not defending himself.
