It's a 15 gallon, they will be outgrowing it this next week I think. Got the floor in the new coop yesterday, starting on framing today. The tank has been good but too small for more than a few weeks.
Just build it it will turn out ok, you can always go back and add on or redo later if you need to... or at least thats what works for me.
I agree. i moved my pullets to the coop when it was just a shell. darn the torpedos and full speed ahead! I barely got the roof on before we had a rainstorm with 50 mph winds. It was nice to see the roof passed the test. I was worried the whole thing would blow over.
Anyway, I added the nest boxes later, then the roost...etc.
The wind is probably my biggest concern. I have the floor in now and about half the framing done for the walls and I can still lift the entire thing right out of the dek blocks. I need to use hurricane ties or something (note to self) and read up on how people that use Dek blocks keep their structures from blowing into the next county.
Made some minor progress over the past few days. You can see the cutout I made in the frame for 2 nest boxes there on the left, probably will add one more 2x4 there in the middle, not sure how well it shows in the pic, but on the right end of the coop will be the main 'people' door. It is big enough for me to get inside and move around a bit. The chicken door is probably going into the floor with a ramp underneith. My wife is letting me take over the entire side yard for their run, so they will have a ton of room out there, just have to predator proof it. I also nailed up the plywood for that back wall, which isn't in this pic. Need to borrow a saw's all or whatever they call those things so I can cut some holes in the plywood now. I hope to be done in a few weeks. My chickens are about 3 weeks old now and ready to move in.
