chicks are such a 'cheep' entertainment!

(wincing because I am guilty) in our pursuit to keep juggling we have taught our children to do the same. Fortunatly, what we learn can be undone, and renamed adventure.

I know what you mean. I had no idea how much fun chickens could be until we decided to do a homeschool science hatching project and I became addicted. I cannot get enough of my chicks. They are not ugly as I once thought chickens to be. They are not stupid as I once thought as well. They are incredible to watch as they form in the egg and then pip out of their shell. The pleasure I get from a newly hatched chick is immense. The fuzzy little ones are entertaining in the brooder, but the most fun comes in watching the "first" things as they happen, their first wing feathers, tail feathers and the comb appearing. I get so much joy watching and caring for these chickens - it's like I should have had them all along, but didn't. I can spend an hour just watching them cluck around and flap at each other. The social dynamics are incredibly interesting and I love to try and figure out who is head hen. I am even looking forward to the day we discover who are the pullets and who are the roos. All those years of scoffing at others for keeping chickens - who knew I would be so smitten with my beautiful flock.

Yeah - who you calling chicken!
