Hi,
I have a serama who hatched 5 eggs two days ago. She is aroung with her babies (high in the pecking order so no one goes near her). No risk of predators too.

But - today i saw that she is busy in the coop dustbathing with her chicks, so I used the chance to give the other chickens some sunflower seeds. Well... needless to say, she must have heard the party and cane with her chicks. To my surprise - the chicks actually managed to swallow the seeds!!! Without shells, of course. Now.... is that a problem?? There is some sand nearby as grit ...

Mama should know what she's doing. If she allowed the chicks, then it must be OK. Good that they have access to grit.

I'm sure it will be fine but keep an eye on them. 🤎
