Hello,
I hope that someone out there can help. I am so sad, a predator broke into our chick run tonight while we were out and took one of our chicks (Blue
she was my sweetest one... see my page for picutes I just took of him/her the other day) and another seems badly wonded. I read the section on predators and it seems like it might of been a possum because it tore off the feathers and skin around his breast area and under his wing. I have them inside, he (Idigo) is in a separate basket with a light on him for heat. I have food and water in there, he has been eating and drinking and napping. Seems fatigued and stands on one leg everyonce and a while probably to rest his sore leg. Oh wait... he just flew/jumped out and tried to get to the others in there basket. Sigh...
He isn't bleeding, but the skin is gone.. it is just the lining that holds in the organs and stuff that is left. My main question is keeping it clean? Do you think he will be okay? I did notice in his first droppings since being inside tonight a trace of reddish orange... which I thought of blood, I hope not... I saw another chicks droppings look like there was a trace of blood in it too, though I am not sure which other one it belonged to. I hope no one else is hurt( I checked them all and indigo was the only one with feathers and skin missing)... I have a total of 6 chicks left so far. Please if anyone could help it would be great. I just feel so sad for Blue the chicky that we lost... I know it sounds dumb to be crying over a chicken. But well...I am.
Oh and they are 4 weeks old, blue orpingtons.
