So, earlier I was asking about nose bleeds from our ~2 wk old chicks. Most of them have them. I really didn't get a definative answer on this, so I figured I'd just add medication to the water and see. Well. I noticed today one chick's beak was very bloody. Upon closer inspection I realized that he is missing most of his upper beak- like the hard outside. He still has some inner parts of it, but it's like the upper just fell off. He is with 3 guinea keets as well as his siblings. (Although I'm going to seperate him and the hens out) Could this be related to his nose-bleeds or could it just be that one of the guineas ripped it off?

Also, how can I feed him? Would taking the powdery bits of food and adding water make it so he could eat it? Should I put triple antibiotic on the wound? Thanks!

I really don't know but I do hope he gets better

Im sure someone else will know

The guineas were said to be 3 days when we got them, but we estimated them to be more like 2 weeks, which would mean they are almost 3 weeks old now. I just seperated them out, and they are not happy at all....crying and crying anc crying. But the chickies are all taking a long nap. I hope they get over it by nightfall.....I have to get up at 5 tomorrow morning!

iI am not very hopefull for the chicks existance
as you will have to feed him daily by tubing
so it may mean culling the chick
and yes the guineas will miss the chicks even though they may have been the culprit who did the debeaking
also the nose bleeds may have been from the guineas picking the chicks
something caused the nose bleeds
any questions email me

HI, My 4 day old mixed bantams grouped up and picked little Nosey's bridge of his nose like what you are describing. There was a little blood but mainly they chipped the top of where his nostril opening is. If it's similar that may make sense to you. I got to him pretty quick and put neosporin and no pick and seperated him. While he was apart he would chirp endlessly and would not eat or drink. Eventually I thought he'll make it or not. When I put him back no one picked on him and he's 5 weeks old out in the coop.

I continued the no pick and neosporin for about 4 days couple of times a day.

The part that is missing hasn't really grown back, kinda makes his nostril look really big on that side. I tease him that when it rains he'll be in trouble.

Good luck hope things get better. Give it your best shot and let them guide you.

Well, I've seperated him out. I'll probably put something on it and see how it goes- I'll give him water and I'll research tube feeding, but I'll see how he goes. Right now he just wants to sleep.
