Chicks belly button

i think (almost certain) that I pulled my chick's (few days old) belly button while cleaning pasty butt for the first time... It bled some, I put Vaseline in it... 12 hours later chick seems ok, but I'm still super worried... Smallest chick out of 4( sharing brooder with 2 ducklings

Well, you dont pull belly buttons no more, you could pull their innards out. Lesson learned.
That said, as long as the chick is eating, drinking and running around like a chick should...she should be fine.

Can you post a pic? Seeing the situation can really be helpful in assessing it.

So what exactly happened? Did a scab-like piece come off? What did you see?

If the chick is eating and drinking fine it should be okay. Definitely have to be careful when cleaning pasty butt. Warm water and slowly clean the vent. Vaseline the butt so poop won't stick.

Just to think about it again makes me cringe! I can't post pictures. But it bled for less than a minute. I figured Vaseline would help, I held the chick near the heat lamp... And released it. It looks fine. When I saw the damage, it looked like a larger than a feather hole... That's when I searhed and figured it was the belly button. But no "guts" came out, so I stayed hopeful. The chick has been eating fine and drinking water... Can't stand there absolutely all day, just have not seen it poop.
Yes, lesson learned, hopefully. Chick continues to thrive. Will keep updating...
