Okay, I don't know how this works, but it seems every time i get just a FEW chicks some how in a week i end up with a LOT of chicks!!!!
Last weekend i hatched out 3 D'uccles, 1 MF, and 2 Porc. During the week we went to get grain at TSC and they had just got their shipment of bantam chicks in so i got 7 of them (they owed us chicks from the last bantams that i got from them and died in a day...i swear it's not me!!!) well out of all of them 1 little white one lived, he's really cute! I think he's a OEGB, any ways so mom calls me from work (TSC) and says to get the other brooder going in the house, she's bringing home 6 chicks. So i set it up and she comes home with 7 Gold Comet Hybrids! They are older and there wings are all feathered out, one has really long wing feathers (goes back and touches it's tail) and i named it Feather
, and because it's going to be my showmanship bird.
So i have 11 chicks in my dining room in two different brooders! Tonight we are going to make a cover for the brooder out in the tack room so nothing can get into it! We also have a Trio of SQ Buff Orps on the way!
Oh and i called TSC Headquarters to complain about the chicks dieing, and explaining they need to find a different place closer to the stores to hatch the bantams or stop carrying them. The guy was very nice and gave me the corporate number to call so im going to be making a call today!
Oh and I was talking to my mom, and realized that im a 4th generation chicken farmer. My great grandparents raised broilers, my grandfather and my mom used to raise bantams, isnt that soo cool?!? My mom also said, IF I can get TSC to agree, we can raise bantams for them, which is really cool because we would re construct the old chicken coops and everything!
Any ways sorry for the essay, ~Ian
