Chick's death....

Try some disinfectant on that wound too--anything but hydrogen peroxide. Bactine, Iodine, or Neosporin would be good. The Neosporin would also keep it moist. Good luck, and good job with surgery!

Thats it. Im going to Lowes as soon as possible and I'll just have to find a way to pay for it.

If you have a birthday coming up you can ask for Lowe's Gift Cards!!

I am glad your Mom stitched your hen back up, I will keep my fingers crossed she will recover quickly!

PS. back in the day of Cowboy's they used real thread to stitch themselves back up.

Good job on the surgery and using sterile technique too!! I will know who to call if I am ever in need of "chicken stitchin". How did you keep that chicken still enough to sew her up?

Sorry for my misunderstanding, I thought maybe you had already lost one of your chicks and the other one was injured. I'm glad your mom was able to help you and teach you what to do. That is really great!

Since you were so careful to be sterile and since you are keeping a close eye on her, I think she should be just fine.

I commend you for doing whatever it takes. My husband spent almost $1500 on our chicken coop because he knew I would be very upset and sad if something killed my $30.00 chickens. We sleep well at night because they have 1/4 inch welding wire in concrete, and wire netting over the top. Good Job, sometimes peace of mind doesn't have a price!

SHES OK! She was running around and eating and drinking fine today. She even got to go outside to visit her buds for a little bit. She couldn't go in there with them, but she got the see them. My mom got some liquid we could put in the wound to seal it up. We are going to take out the thread tomorrow. The scarey thing is, the chicken is barely two weeks old. Her insides wiggled themselves right back where they're sopposed to be. Too bad, parents, this one's staying! Just gotta add another 50 ft onto that pen...hmmm.

Just held her in a towel. Shes tiny, so it wasn't hard. I'll post some pics. You won't believe how different it is. She already started to heal. I have to rinse it out every hour with sterile water. I thought of a fitting name, Fortune. I really, truly thought that she was going to die. It was pitiful. She was leaning over from to weight of her own entrials on the floor. Maybe chicks are tougher than we think!!!

It's so nice to hear some good news. I'm soooo happy for you and kudos to you and your mom. I was holding my breath through the whole thread til I read your last post. What a great sigh of relief. Keep us posted please.
