My 2 broodies Momma hen and her daughter Nugget have almost made it to hatch day and i'm a nervous wreck. Both girls decided to start setting on the same day. Friday makes 21 days and Momma started early that morning and Nugget started about 5 that evening. I noticed this morning when I was feeding that Momma has started softly talking to herself. Last year when she hatched out Toothless and Henrietta that they hatched a day early and she started talking to the eggs a day before they hatched so possibly chicks from her tomorrow. My daughter Rosie is really looking forward to these as they are also Toothy babies and she's sitting on 11 eggs. Nugget is sitting on 8, 4 of her own and 4 buff orp mixes I think. Nugget is only 6 months old and its her first time being broody. So far so good with her. She's just like her momma in that she is a evil biting dragon if you even think of touching her so i've not attempted to candle and see progress. I went ahead last night and fixed up their dog crates so they are ready to go. In doing so I've ticked off Henrietta and the Marans because i locked them out and they can not go play in the fresh sawdust and wreck them. There is a whole truckload of sawdust in the barn isle and horses stalls for them to play and dust bathe in but because the dog crates are off limits its not good enough. They want whats in those crates lol.
