Chicks dying, not sure why.

I totally agree that the chicks need to be able to get away from the heat. Do you have a thermometer to see how hot it really is at the far end away from the lamp? I would take the cushions away and have a way of raising the lamp if it is too hot. The chicks will tell you when it’s just right. Under the lamp = too cold. Away from the lamp = too hot. Wandering back and forth from under and away from the lamp and pretty much equally spaced = just right.
