Chicks eating layer feed

IMO, the lack of protein is more of an issue than the extra calcium. (please, let's not start a calcium war here, folks.) You could boost their protein by giving them an egg, some left over meat. Got any old meat in your freezer? Got any friends who go fishing? Have them bring you their trash fish. But, if I were in your shoes, I'd insist that they give me the feed I was requesting. Friends go the extra mile for friends. It's not too much to ask to get the type of feed you want and need.

When azygous said not to patronize the store, it meant to not do business with them. Not patronize as in to look down on.

anyway--I've fed my chickens a lot of fish trimmings/heads/leftovers. Raw trimmings and heads, cooked leftovers. Doesn't seem to matter, they enjoy it all.

I could use some advice as well. I have raised baby chicks using a Broody before so this is not my first time. However this time around I forgot to get chick starter. So I have two week old chicks who have been eating layer feed since they hatched. I noticed three of them today not acting right. I have 17 total and so far the others seem to be okay. But that doesn't mean anything. I took the feed out of their pen and I'm getting chick starter now. I'm afraid I just killed them all. Is there any help out there

You should start a new thread. This one will get answers to the question at the beginning, not yours at the end.

I'd also suggest starting your new thread in the emergencies/diseases section since it isn't really about feed but the symptoms you're seeing (which may or may not be a result of the feed). Include information about what the symptoms are, too.
