About your heat question - I live in the central valley of CA and our temps are in the hundreds in the summer. I have a box fan that I put on a timer that blows through the coop and it works perfectly - keeps the chickens very comfortable. I also have tons of ventilation. I have also noticed that the chickens like to find shady, damp places to hang out while free-ranging in the summer. If your temps aren't too high, maybe you could provide them with some wet dirt to lay on????
