I have 5 week old Cornish X chicks from Welp. They are doing great! I have been feeding them Homestead Grower (17.5%). I was thinking about mixing my own (using corn, soy bean meal, and chick-en-egg concentrate) for the rest of their time to save on costs. The mix I was planning on making is 22%, but I just read on the Welp website that they suggest that you start them on a 20-22% starter and at 5 weeks switch them to an 18% feed. I feel like I am doing this backwards, yet I have read that a lot of you feed 20-22% from start to stop.
Also, I read that feeding the chicks corn will increase the amount of fat that they put on. Is that if I feed corn as the sole ration, or will a feed with 50% corn be okay.
