So 2 days ago we put our 6 week old chicks in their new coop. I let them out to go in the run and for the past 2 nights I had to pick them up and put them back
In the coop. How do get them to go in by themselves? I’m a new chicken mom
Also when they are in the coop they sleep all together in the corner where the coop door is.
Thanks

It takes some time but after a few nights of you putting them where they belong they should start to do it on their own. I call it a chick pile when they all sleep together like that. It's perfectly normal, I think it's cute!

Imagine you are a chick with a tiny brain that lacks imagination like you are doing. Once you are out in the run, the coop makes no impression on you since it looks nothing like it does from the inside.

Therefore, you need to teach the chicks to go inside when night comes. A little light helps so they can see there are no boogie monsters lurking inside. If you wait until they clump together and make their bedtime trilling sounds, it's easier than chasing them down. Gently feed them one at a time through the pop hole. You may need to close the door once they get in so they don't all squirt right back out again.

There is no reason you can't also teach them to roost. My five-week olds catch onto roosting after only two or three nights. They are going inside on their own after two or three nights of showing them.

Throw treats on your ramp. Then leave the bowl on the coop.
We have a nite light inside the coop as soon as we turn it on they run up the ramp.
But it did take a week having to catch them. I would put them half way of the ramp and help them up the rest of the way. Once one of learn the rest will fo6.

I’m training my 2.5 week old ducklings and Guineas. 3 evenings of placing them in and bingo!! All6 are going in. But they stay up 45 minutes later then the hens!!!

It took me 5 days of putting my girls in. It felt like I’d put 1 in and 2 would come out...ha ha! On the 6th night we went out and there they were, they’d already put themselves to bed in the coop. We had their roost about 4 inches from the floor and they’d all hopped up.
