chick's have poop sticking to butt

I had the same thing happen...I took her outside and held her sideways and poured warm water over her hinny. It caused her to poop again but loosed the dried poop and it came off too. I had to do it a couple of times to get it all off.

Well, so far so good. No pasty hinnies today. I put a little bit of sand in the bottom of their brooder and they loved it. I don't know how much is too much though so I won't put anymore in for a few days. They loved the dried mealy worms that I dropped in for them, but again, I don't want to overdo it.

Glad I read this post. Our three day old Bantams had a build up started and I have already cleaned them twice. Was going to try the veggie oil but was afraid it would encourage pecking. I will do it now though.

okay, I was trying to pull off the poop with a warm, wet paper towel, and stopped when I realized that down was coming off too. I'm so tired of the 'Pasty Butt Clinic'

The down came off of one of my chicks too ,but it won't hurt her. if you have on medicated chick feed try taking them off for a few days. That's what we were told to do.

I feel terrible. I pulled it off before googling what it was. Now her backside is red and raw looking. I'm worried it hurts her. Does anyone have advice about what I can do?

Hi, excuse me if my post seems rude, but I'm not a native speaker and just curious to know, never too old to learn. When you put veggie oil on their vent, by "vent", do you mean poophole ?
