(hope this is the right spot to post this)
We just put our 10 chicks (between 7-9 weeks I think) into a new coop. It is a coop with a henhouse and run combined, very predator proof, and the henhouse is open to the run all the time. I put them in the henhouse and they immediately went out into the run. My question: do I need to put them back in the henhouse at night? Will they do that on their own? There are roosts in the house and none in the run (just got it finished today, will probably put some in) so if they want to roost they need to go to the house, but I don't know if they have any idea that their are roost in there, since they spent so little time in there. In retrospect, probably should have kept them in the house a bit so they felt at home but...I didn't. ;)
Any thoughts? If they are safe in the run, should I just let them stay out there if they don't go in on their own?
thanks

We got a batch of 8-10 week old chicks last week and stuck them in a chicken tractor next to the big hen pen. When I went to close the door between the coop and the run they were all lined up on the roost bar.
If your coop does not have a door between it and the run the girls may need to be "put to bed" for a couple nights until they get the idea. Otherwise they will figure it out.

I'll give it a go, getting them in the house. Already I can see myself chasing them about! The henhouse is raised the the entrance is in the floor, so I can see it being difficult. But I'll try, and if I don't manage to get them in I'll not worry to much, and try again tomorrow (maybe when I have some help!)
