Chicks in the shed

I plan on getting my first chicks ine spring. I'm wondering if putting them in my shed would isolate them too much. I can run power out there for the warming lamp, but it would be closed most of the day. There are a couple of small windows, though. Should I keep them in the garage or basement (cat alert) instead? I live in Michigan, by the way.

I think they would be ok in the shed. I had mine in the garage in a dog kennel that is made for small dogs with the top on it and everything and they were fine. If you are still worried, just let them roam the yard for a little bit everyday or so, AS YOU WATCH THEM. Anything can happen to a baby chick so they need the supervision.

When I started out, my brooder was in the barn. Worked out great, except that as it got close to time for them to move to the coop I was worried that they would get too hot in the enclosed brooder inside the barn and had to build a hardware cloth top for it.
