Chicks in winter?

Does anyone have any experience in hatching chicks in winter? But here's the exception, i'm talking about letting a hen hatch her own eggs. Will she keep it warm as a chick in the winter?

It's nearing end of winter in SA now and I had 2 hens hatch out chicks about 2 months ago when it was freezing. Especially at night. They kept the chicks warm enough, even when sleeping outside. Some mornings I had to go out and break the ice in their water bowls and the chicks were running around, ducking under mom now and then for a warm up. They al grew fine and we had no problems.
