Chicks made the move out to the coop

I have 6 EEs that are 5wks old. We moved them out to the coop today.
DH and DS worked and sectioned of a space for the new chickes in the coop.
It is a 3x8ft space seperated by chicken wire. The chicks and the hens can
see each other but not get to each other. We think this may help get them
used to each other. It is suppose to be warn tonight in the 50s but cold the
next 2 night. We have the light on but I still worry about them getting cold.

We plan on keeping this area after they are out of it for chicken jail or isolation
or maybe if I decide to keep a roo. I think 4 of the 6 are roos.

Here are the big girls checking the chicks out. I think they are saying "What is that"?

Cute! I'm sure they will adjust fine. I need to mesh mine soon as well.

Is it common for hens of the red breed to have the large comb? Because most of those look like roosters to me,lol. I'm definitely no expert though!

Yes they are all hens that just turned 1yr old.
Golden Comets real laying machines. We have 11
and started laying early at 15wk and still going strong
Up until about 2 mo ago we got 11 eggs most every day.
Still getting 8 a day.

I wanted some blue and green eggs to dress up the cartons.
I guess these take a lot long to start laying but it will be worth it.

Wow, I need some of those. I have three EE's, mine are so stand offish that I hope their eggs are worth their attitude,lol.

Golden Comets the same as Golden sex links?

Yes I think so. I've only had chicks for a year so dont know
all the breds. They were recomended to my by a lady
that had some and said they would be a nice start for me.
They have been great. Spoiled rotten but great.

Def sex links.. I have three myself.. and you're right.. They're voracious layers!

I built a small separation box as well and attached it to my last next box about 3' off the ground. I use it as an all purpose separator. First as a place to put broody hens to hatch off a few eggs, then when they get old enough, I remove the hen and leave the new chicks in there to grow until they're ready to be integrated. When it's free I have a box large enough to quarantine birds or lock them up for coop cleaning/mods..
