I've taken the chicks (4 weeks) out to visit the coop during the day for the last three days. Tonight will be their first night. I've set up their heat lamp in one corner and will close off about a third of it. So far, my only issue is trying to get the heat down!! It is reading over 120 in the corner - although the chicks have a LOT of room to get away from it. They will run over into the light, throw themselves down, and lift their wings, exposing the skin underneath. They bake for a few minutes, then get up and run away.

They seem to really really like the room.

It looks great!! How exciting!
So much room to move, fly and explore.

A question for you: Is the red and white container for water and the silver one for food?

Silver bucket is for food, red one is water. I got the waterer from Premier One Fencing. I liked it because it has a convenience carry handle, like a bucket - The Quick Clean Bucket Waterer http://www.premier1supplies.com/detail.php?prod_id=30961&cat_id=141. It is working great, although I am introducing the chicks to a chicken nipple waterer I made from a kitty litter container, and I like that one even better. I think the Quick Clean Bucket will become their outside waterer once they move on to be free range chickens.

What kind of chickens are the buff ones? Orpingtons? I have one that is lighter than the others (they're about 2 wks), but now the feathers on her shoulders are getting a bit darker, kinda like yours. We got ours as mixed straight run at TSC.

Yes, the light ones are Buff Orpingtons, and the black ones are Silver Laced Wyandottes

I LOVE the "Exit" sign! So cute! Nice set up and good luck getting sleep tonight

My girls made the move over a week ago and I remember being an absolute MESS! Good luck to your girls and to you!
