I have several 2 week old Ayem Cemani chicks. My daughter just brought one in from the brooder and its head is turned downward like its neck is twisted. Any idea why? How do i fix it? Is it fixable? Help! **Btw, the spot on its head is just dirty, not an injury I cleaned it since that pic was taken 15997878914656143204732595363709.jpg 15997879221137634658655124335616.jpg 15997879486109053384051692881804.jpg

oh my i dont have any thing with this but i hope yu can get some help. maybe try to give him some sort of treat to see if he moves his neck hope this can heklp

Yeah i tried to hold her in different ways but its obvious that it either hurts to straighten it or it just doesn't want to move that way for some reason. Its like exact opposite of wry neck, unless it could go either direction. Can it go either direction? I’ve heard it referred to as stargazer syndrome because they are leaning backwards not forward.

Maybe it's wry neck? I don't know much about it. @Eggcessive could probably help. A generally good helper for chicks is some nutrients or some electrolytes in their water-usually Nutri-Drench or Sav-a-chick.

I always thought wry neck went backwards, not down but I'm not terribly familiar with all the symptoms.

I have nutri-drench and wil give some of that because I assume it won't hurt?

Shes currently laying in my hand chattering away, but not fighting me or acting in pain at all. Nodding off, its bed time.

Nutri-drench generally is a good first step. I'd try to prop up her head in a way that seems comfortable near/under the heat source or near where the others are sleeping.

I had a salmon faverolle do that 2weeks ago after falling down a hole, give her lots of electrolyte water and KEEP ALL OF YOUR ATTENTION ON HER UNTIL SHE IS 100% STABLE! I took my attention off of Fezzie for 30 seconds, looked back and she wasn't breathing, and no matter my efforts she didn't start breathing again. I gave her CPR and everything. Just always have someone with eyes on her and give her lots of electrolyte water.

After holding her for a while, I’m wondering if it’s spastic or something? I put her back in the brooder, she was walking around fine, jumped up on the brooder plate and was just hanging out with her broodermates. She straightened up, nearly normal, then she stumbled jumping off the plate and when she hit the bottom, feet first, she started to curl up like a shrimp. Maybe it was reactionary? Guarding? I straightened her up again, gently, and she stays relatively straight her own but is still not normal.

I added nurtidrench to their water and will keep an eye for the next couple hours before bed. I have a smaller brooder she can go in if I need to separate her.

I’ll update tomorrow. Hopefully this is one of those minor things that seems bigger than it is??
