Chicks not putting themselves up at night

I have a coop like that with five seven week olds. They all sleep in a next box. My plan is to build on an external nest box and using the slot things from the current nest boxes. It would greatly increase their area inside. In the morning they are waiting to come out! They skip the run under the coop to go out into the portable run attached. They like to roost on the perches there and interact with the pullets next door. And, of course explore the grass and ground.

I have that same coop and I'll tell ya, you're going to out grow it quick :) I was in the same situation last year, my husband wasn't thrilled but he built it for me. Then I realized it was too small for even my 4 RIR's. I was able to get him to build a bigger coop after a few discussions (really I think he's as into it as I am, just doesn't want to admit it ;))
We've lost all but 1 of that flock to predators (no more free ranging here) and I'll be introducing 6 5 week old chicks in to that coop with our one adult with plans to further predator proof the other coop that was built ASAP. I'm hoping the 7 of them only spend a week in that coop because of the size and we also have an additional run that we built out to fit over the door.
