Feel free to laugh-I did. I got my first ever chicks this spring from Tractor Supply-6 sex link hens. Now, 10 weeks and a beautiful chicken yard/house later, they are CROWING. Now, I am new to chickens, but I'm pretty sure hens don't do that! So much for eggs in the nest boxes this summer.

So-is it too late into the summer to start over with chicks, or do I wait a year? I can't believe how much I've enjoyed these chickens, and I'm eager to find pullets-do I go on and get them? I want to get it right this time.

TIA

now is fine, I just hatch a bunch of eggs. I actually enjoy chicks this time of year as they can go outside and don't need a light for so long. Where are you located, you might be able to find someone on here with chicks you can buy.

Do it NOW! lol I got my first 5 chicks in Early March and the population has exploded at my house! Where are you located? Maybe someone around you can help you
BTW Turkeys are fun too...

You can get chicks now.

Pros: warmer, chicks can get out of brooder quicker.

Cons: Many hatcheries are sold out of pullets. Hens might not start laying until next Spring.

Of course, chicks next Spring won't start laying until the following Fall.

Thanks, folks. We're in NC, halfway between Charlotte and Asheville. I am eager to get more-I never dreamed that chickens would be so much fun!!

Where do you live? Tractor supply type stores should still be selling them... I have 5 living outside that I bought in March as well, but I have 9 more babies in the house that I just bought last week at Farm & Fleet. Those kinds of stores are definitely still selling them, but you may have to get them soon.... Don't wait a year, GO!!!!!
