I just looked outside and Cloudy has her 1 week old chicks outside. The temps are only in the low 40's at the moment. The chicks appear fine and are scratching around. Should I worry?

Nevermind! I just looked out again and she's now sitting in the dirt with all the chicks under her.

She's such a good mama!

I have two mother hens with five chicks that hatched the week of March 1st. They have been fine without me. They stayed inside the first three or four weeks(no heat) and go out every day now. The temps in March went down to 30s at night and they knew what to do. I know some people will caution.... Plenty of chicks survived before heat and without our intervention.

Don't worry, they will be just fine! Mamma isn't gonna take em out
In harms way, and if they start getting a bit chilled, she will warm
Them up.

I am in NC also and had 2 broodys hatch a dozen chicks out during
Our snow and ice in mid january and she had them runnning around
When the sun would come out even tho there was still snow in spots
And they all survived just fine and are beautiful girls now.

Nature will find a way to take care of its own. They really don't need us
As much as we think they do. Good luck!
