I ordered 10 Welsummers from Cackle hatchery. They arrived yesterday along with 5 buff orpingtons pullets. Right from the get go the Welsummers starting pecking at the orpingtons so I moved the orpingtons thinking that they looked different and maybe that was what was going on.
In a hour time they were pecking each other, ones eye was swelled shut, I romoved him and then did a on line search and read maybe they were to hot or crowded no in both cases. Then I read use a red bulb, I didn't have one or know where to find one. I saw someone sugusted putting a few drops of vinager in their water , I did that and in 3o minutes they began to get better . So if you have chicks picking at each other try a teasoon of vinager to a gallon of water.
I am wondering why only that breed was picking and I am wondering if it is the breed.

my son raises Turkeys and today I told him about my chickens pecking at each other and he said his turkeys did that and he had to put vingar in their water or to drop some aspirin in their water. He said they had sour crops and needed the acid.
