What is a normal amount of pecking?

You may of ended up with something like a Marans? Though there are some other species that tend to be aggressive peckers. I have heard that the Marans birds tend to do that a lot.

This is a picture of the chick in question. On the box at the farm supply store it had 2 tags on it, black sex link and buff orpington so I assumed that’s what was in there. She was the only one though. I know when they’re chicks the males have a yellow spot on their head I think? I never saw that when she was a baby or now. Are you able to tell if it’s a hen or a roo by this?

I’m hoping with the new separation technique of them being able to see each other will help. On one of my replies I added an image of what the set up looks like. I noticed the first time I put her back she wasn’t pecking as much or as hard.

I’ll keep trying my best with her ❤️
She looks like my troublemaker, Q, an Olive Egger that we ordered online (with 7 other breeds) as a day old chick. (They're 6 weeks old now.) She is so bossy!!!

One of the others is a White Crested Black Polish named Ruth - I've had to separate her because she's getting pecked so badly. It's been 2 days, and she's healing well, so I tried putting Ruth back in with the others today. Q went DIRECTLY for her sore head. She can be a beast! But I adore her too. Obviously I pulled Ruth right back out. She's free-ranging in the front hall on top of the enclosure and is very pleased with herself.

When they are all out and about, Q is sweet and social and just wants love and attention. She's sweet as can be. (The other pic is the two of them sharing treats with their (not-very-frizzle) Frizzle Easter Egger Bantam sister, Feeby.) I just can't get over their personalities.

This is our 2nd flock - we have 3 left from our first and we're going to introduce them to each other (separated) today finally. I wish I could have done it a week ago but the weather has been terrible here. Either unbearably hot or giant thunderstorms.

Good luck with your sassy baby!!!
