Murray Mc... would not ship vaccinated and unvaccinated chicks in same box. They said the unvaccs would get sick from shed virus. My question is this is it safe to introduce these vaccinated chicks (Marecks) into my general unvaccinated flock?

The vaccine is a DEAD virus them peeps don't know what they are talking about. :old

Plus the vaccine usually used is a turkey virus, which I would think means DOESN'T effect chickens even in it's live form?

It's completely safe. Your vaccinated chicks may still get Mareks from your current flock (vaccines are NOT 100% effective)... but the vaccine usually prevents the the tumors that cause paralysis that leads to not being able to make it food and water and eventual death. And IF you current flock displays signs of Mareks it will be from your own property... just now rearing its' ugly head.

Vaccinated birds... possibly hiding the disease (acquired later in life NOT from the vaccine)... NOT welcome at my place. ;)

Best resource I have seen regarding Marek's was written by one of our own BYCer's..

That being said... I don't know if you need to wait a certain period of time for your vaccinated bird to be considered immune against whatever might already be there. Like Parvo vaccine in dogs, they should not be exposed to the actual virus while the vaccine is setting up in the system. I'm not all about vaccines... but Parvo is one will NEVER raise our dogs without.

Hope this is helpful. :)
