I have several 4 to 5 week old chicks that have been outside a couple of times. When they are outside they are in the sunshine on a calm day with temps at 65-70 degrees. Yesterday they started to sneeze, all 5 of them. They do not sneeze when they are inside, and they were only outside for 30 minutes or so. I know they can catch a cold but this was a short burst of sneezes and they stopped when they were put back inside.

Why would they suddenly start to sneeze? Are they too little to be out for short periods of time?

no, not too little at all, could just be allergies, mine do it all the time, no need to worry! Mine we out permanently at 3 weeks, w/ heat lamp and no heat lamp at 5 weeks, they grow and feather quickly when they are outside.

Mine have been doing the same thing. I put a bunch of mowed grass in the brooder box for them to play in a couple weeks ago and within minutes they were all sneezing like crazy. I thought the same thing about them having colds, but as soon as I took the grass out they were fine. I then took them outside for the first time this past weekend, and they were sneezing like crazy the whole time. Just my luck - my chickens are allergic to grass!

My silkies would sneeze like that when I took them outside. They would also sneeze sometimes when they would kick up too much dust from the shavings in their brooder. I freaked out, being a new chicken mommy, that they had some kind of repiratory disease. They stopped sneezing altogether at about 6 or 8 weeks, though. Why chicken would have alergies, I don't know

, but I think it's pretty normal.
