know there's a few of you that keep hens. Can you tell me i have to broodies sat on eggs. One been on orpington eggs since thur 18th june and another sat on pekin batam eggs since tue23rd june. Neither have hatched yet! The hens are sat on but for anout 5 minutes a day when they come off to feed. But i'm wondering how much longer? I'm sure orpington are 24days incubation and pekin 19 days so we are over. Is that normal? This is our first time hatching. I feel more restless than i did when i was waiting for my babies to be born!

I wish I could help you with that but I can't. I'm sending you some good vibes your way.

I know pekin takes 28 days. Im new to this, but my pekin egg is piping and Im just waiting on him to hatch.

I would candle. If they have been on them since June 18 then you're right they are over. Under a broody my eggs hatch day 19 or 20. Any that haven't hatched by day 24 I take out because I figure they aren't going to hatch. All standard chicken eggs take the same amount of time to hatch, regardless of the breed.

Pekin? As in the other word for Cochin? Chickens? 28 days? You've been running really cool to get a 28 day chick.

If you mean duck, then you're right on sched.
