I have 5 silkies from the disaster of all disaster hatches (started with 39 eggs, had to help 2 out and one hatched very late). One of the chicks that I helped (had been zipped for 24 hours and no progress) looks like its leg is either broken or has spraddle leg? I've never had a chick with spraddle before. This chick only has one leg that is off to the side, not both of them. It can sort of hobble around, but not well. I tried using a rubberband on the legs to hold together, but I don't know if its really helping. It doesn't seem to be eating very well...I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't make it. Is there anything else I can do for it? I also tried some of the Poly Vi Sol vitamins...but I can't tell that it is really helping.
One of the other chicks is very small and looks underdeveloped. It was the last one to hatch - but you can still see its umbilical cord. I've never seen that happen on my other hatches. He is wobbly and uncoordinated. Any chance he will pull through? Is there anything I should be doing to help that one out?
I'm so discouraged from everything that went wrong with the hatch and I feel terrible for these little guys that are suffering. Wish I knew what went wrong with the hatch.
