Here they are! (PLEASE IGNORE THE MESS, i havent cleaned it today. 50 chicks are messy) One made it all the way up, the others jump up the ladder, then jump off into a pile of its friends. hahhaa

I cant wait til they all figure it out!

Neat set up. We will be filling 2 bators on Saturday. Might need to build a bigger brooder, we've never hatched so many (possibly up to 90 eggs!

) Always used a XL dog crate. What are your dimensions and how long do you plan on keeping your 50 chicks in it? Thanks!

It's 4 feet tall, 4 feet wide and 2 feet deep. It had 2 levels (i used the top one while they were little. now they want to jump and fly). I took the top level out, and replaced it with a little triangle corner piece. And also added that little ladder.

So far they are 2 weeks old, and I will probably only keep them in there until they are 4 weeks. Then out into this mambajamba, and I'll keep a light on them too.

I like the idea of 2 levels!

The brooder I bought (craigslist for only $10) is really a Guinea Pig habitat that is 36"W x22"L x17"H and the upper 10" is clear plastic. It has a wire top that latches closed so I can use a heat lamp easily. Only getting 5 chicks so I hope it will be good enough for at least a few weeks. Your photo makes me want to give them another level somehow, hmmmm......

HAHA! I did that for awhile! Thats how I started! You could just shove a piece of board throught the wires (i've done that)
