So, I have a mixed up bunch of chicks: leghorns, orpingtons, black australorp, barred rock, and production reds... Some for meat, some for eggs. They just turned 4 weeks old. We check them 2x-3x a day and add feed and clean out the 1-gal waterer, but every so often when I go out there they are out of food. How many feeders do you recommend for a flock of 25? Should I seperate the meat from the pullets and feed differently?

I'm totally new at this...

I have an 11lb feeder and a flock of 17 6-week old mixed breeds empties it in about 2.5 to 3 days!!!

You should separate your meaties from your egg layers because meaties are supposed to have their food taken from them at night after 3 weeks of age. Otherwise they will get too big, too fast and could die on you before you are ready. My layers have food 24/7 and my meaties have food about 12 on/12 off.

Also, it depends on how much your feeder holds as to whether you need more feeders or not. I have a 7 pound feeder and it says, I think, 5-12 birds. I have 11 6&7 week old pullets and they take about 2 days to eat it when it is full. My 4 year old hens take quite a few days to empty theirs if it is full.
