I thought to myself...OH NO! Then she lifted her head and looked at me

Sometimes my hens will scare me. They'll be stretched out in the chicken run like they're dead, and then when I hurry over to check them out they lift their heads and look at me like, "What?"

Mine like to sunbathe.

Why did you have to bother me? I was enjoying my sun/dust bath so much, too!

Yup, they can look dead, or like they have broken some bones. Part of the fun!

This is happening to me all the time with these new chicks. It's especially worrisome as I have one chick that's not growing. She'll be on her back eyes closed, little feet curled and I'll panic. Then I get the cool, "What? Why are you bothering me during Chicken Spa (dustbaths)?"
Chick raising is not for the faint of heart.

Just enough to get the blood flowing. Dead giveaway I'm a newbie. On the way to pick up by chicks from a farm we stopped at TSC. Looking at the bin full of cheeps I said "oh so cute, except for the dead one in the corner"... and then it stood up. Glad we got that out of the way!
